Paul Sawyer is a lifelong conservative leader, Baton Rouge native, and dedicated public servant with more than three decades of experience delivering results for Louisiana families. As former Chief of Staff to Congressman Garret Graves, Paul has led a high-performance team managing policy, communications, and constituent services while helping secure over $10 billion in funding for infrastructure, disaster prevention, education, economic development, and community priorities across the state. Before that, he served as Chief of Staff to former Congressman Richard Baker and held senior roles in state government at Louisiana Economic Development, where he managed hundreds of millions of dollars in defense and economic development projects and helped draft first-of-their-kind tax incentive programs for Louisiana's ports.
Paul's career spans the public and private sectors, from government affairs at Albemarle Corporation to public affairs at the global firm Burson-Marsteller, to teaching politics at the Catholic University of America. A Fellow of the Hoover Institution at Stanford University, he holds a Master's degree from Johns Hopkins University and a Bachelor's degree from Southern Methodist University. Throughout his career, Paul has built a reputation as a trusted advisor to elected officials, business leaders, and community organizations as someone who knows how to cut through bureaucracy, build coalitions, and get things done.
Paul and his wife Lisa are deeply rooted in the Baton Rouge community. He has served on the boards of the Greater Baton Rouge Area Food Bank, the Ochsner Board of Trustees for the Baton Rouge market, and Breakthrough T1D (formerly the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation), a cause close to his heart as the father of a son living with Type 1 diabetes. Their family is active parishioners at First Presbyterian Church of Baton Rouge, and Paul is a proud Catholic High School parent and alumni association member. He and Lisa are raising their family in the district and are invested in the future of the community they call home.
